■ Product Overview (Story)
＜STORY＞
The story takes place in the noble northern land of Hokkaido, in the turbulent late Meiji period.
Saichi Sugimoto, a former soldier who was nicknamed "Invincible Sugimoto" for his demonic fighting style, including at Hill 203, the most brutal battlefield in the Russo-Japanese War, spends his days panning for gold in Hokkaido in order to obtain a large sum of money for a certain purpose. There, Sugimoto learns of the existence of a huge amount of gold nuggets stolen from the Ainu people. The man who stole the nuggets, "Nopperabo," hid the nuggets in a certain place just before he was captured, and tattooed the location of the nuggets on the bodies of 24 prisoners, helping them escape from prison.
It is said that all the prisoners' tattoos form a single code.
At that time, Sugimoto is attacked by a wild brown bear, but is saved by an Ainu girl. The girl's name is "Ashi(ri)pa", and her father was killed by the man who stole the gold. Sugimoto, who is pursuing the gold, and Asi(ri)pa, who wants to avenge her father, decide to work together.
Also after the gold is Lieutenant Tokushiro Tsurumi of the Imperial Japanese Army's 7th Division. He plans to conquer Hokkaido for the division members who risked their lives to fight in the Russo-Japanese War but were not rewarded for it, and he needs the gold as a military fund.
Another escapee was the Shinsengumi's "Demon Vice-Commander," Toshizo Hijikata, who was thought to have been killed in the Boshin War. He joined up with his former ally, Shinpachi Nagakura, and set out in pursuit of the gold to realise his own ambitions.
